Yorke Peninsula to Eyre Peninsula

Yorke Peninsula to Eyre Peninsula

Early departure from Port Broughton, and headed to Port Germein to walk the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Port Germein Jetty was 1690 metres long, but due to high tides and wild seas it has been restored several times and is currently 1532 metres long. The last section is awaiting repair, so you can’t quite walk to the end. We spent the morning walking out, and with 3 sets of stairs down into the water Ripley enjoyed a swim. It is a must visit while in the area.

We stopped for lunch in Port Augusta and saw our first Desert Sturt Pea in the park. Then we headed down the Eyre Peninsula for our first stop near Point Lowly.

Driving along a rugged road for about 5kms we reached our spot for the next few nights. A free camp at Shingles Beach in Fitzgerald Bay. Right on the waters edge, when the tide came in you could hear it lapping at the rocks just metres away from our van.

Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, we spent our 2 nights/days just relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. Our closest ’neighbours’ were about 250 metres away. We found a new friend who got stuck in the rock pools as the tide went out. We made sure he got away at the next high tide.
